I'm getting older (early 40's at the time of this article) and I'm finding a few things more difficult.
Physical activity is leading to muscle cramping. Sometimes, I'm unable to sustain the physical activity as long as I think I should be able and finally recovery after physical activity is taking longer.
Secondary is maintaining my cognitive ability as I get older. I already have hobbies that require encourage a range of cognitive skills so I already have the use and practice of the abilities I want to retain.
In addition to cognitive ability is general health having to do with the immune and cardiovascular systems.
Obviously a multi-vitamin to help prevent muscle cramping (from vitamin/mineral deficiency) and help sustained activity and recovery. I will generally go with Thorne Research for most supplementation because of the quality, testing and transparency they provide. The formulation
of this vitamin separates day and night so minor tweaking can occur to help with active time vs rest time.
Relatively new, it increases mitochondrial biogenesis and NAD+ levels in cells. This supports neurlogic, metabolic and muscular function in the body. There is a study in Nature showing efficacy (although it further research is required) it seems like a good addition because I am older.
More of an impulse buy (I was in Costco at the time). I've been looking at Krill Oil for awhile because I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and do other workouts which are joint intensive. I've heard good stuff about Krill Oil specifically around joint support. There are some studies out there that do show it's effective for arthritis and joint issues. I'm hoping it will act to prevent those states as well.
